Frequently Asked Questions

SOLID STATE ELECTRONIC MACHINES:

HB-20P - Can I get a copy of MSHA's letter of approval for my records?

Yes - A copy of our letter of approval for the HB-20P & HCCR is obtainable by written or faxed request.

HB-50,C-50, L-50 - I changed the battery on my HB-50 but the ready light still will not light; what can I do?

The HB/C/&L-50's utilize two (2) 'AA' pen lite cells. Changing only one most times is not sufficient nor recommended practice. Pull the battery clip completely out of the battery compartment and replace both 'AA' cells. Very often this simple operation can save costly shipping charges and down time.

HBR-150, HBR-350, HB-12, HB/C/L-50 - Is it possible to get spare battery clips for my machine?

Yes - Spare battery clips and battery caps are available through your dealer / distributor at a nominal fee.

L-50 - [Pay no attention to the men outside your door] - The high intensity READY light is great for daytime operations, but do you have an apparatus to limit the light intensity for night operations?

No - The reason for this is pretty simple, to alter the case or design of the machine would only increase the weight and cost. We have found that a simple piece of electrical tape or electrical tape with a pin hole poked in the center makes an excellent fix for any night operation and keeps both budget and men safe.

OTHER MANUFACTURERS MACHINES - Do you repair other peoples machines?

No - For purposes of liability we only repair machines of our own manufacture.

NON-ELECTRIC INITIATORS:

HR-8,3,22 - Do you have instructions available on how to properly use the HR units?

Yes - Originally HR's were not shipped with instruction but now are. Instructions for the proper use of HR units is available on this web site or are available through written or faxed request. >goto HR instructions<

HR-8,3,22 - A shotgun shell primer swelled up in the breach of the nozzle and I can't get it out; What can I do?

There are a number of things that can be done about this. First: Only the Remington #209, Federal, or CCI shotgun shell primers should be used with your HR unit. Second: You should incorporate some type of routine maintenance for your HR unit - such as every so often clean the breach of the nozzle with an abrasive material such as Scotchbrite - repeated and extended use will cause carbon build up which will eventually, through heat and expansion, try to "bond" with a spent shotgun shell primer. Finally: Should a shotgun shell primer become lodged in the breach most times it is very simply removed by pressing very firmly against it with your thumb and while maintaining pressure rotating your thumb in a counter-clockwise manner. IT IS HOWEVER OUR PRIMARY RECOMMENDATION THAT A ROUTINE SCHEDULE OF MAINTENANCE BE ADOPTED.

HR-8,3,22 - I lost the nozzle to my HR unit; Can I get a replacement?

Yes - Replacement nozzles are available through your local dealer / distributor at a nominal fee.

HR-8,3,22 - My buddy just go an HR and it came with a safety pin; Can I get a safety pin for my HR unit?

Yes - When the HR's were originally sold they were not fitted with safety pins. New HR's ship from the factory with safety pins in them. They are available through written or faxed request.

GALVANOMETERS / SILVER CHLORIDE CELLS:

AgCl - I bought a Silver Chloride Cell about 10 months ago and went to use it for the first time yesterday. It didn't seem to work; Is there some way I can still use it?

Yes - By their nature, Silver Chloride Cells when left standing for long periods of time will sometimes go into "hibernation". Cross connect (dead-short) the two terminals on top of the cell for about one minute. This will bring the cell out of "hibernation".
